BUSINESS IS (BABY) BOOMING FOR HOMEBIRTHS AND INDEPENDENT MIDWIVES

Independent midwives UK (IMUK), the national members’ organization for self-employed midwives, today introduced a new website and brand identity, reflecting their values as independent practitioners and renewing their commitment to lead the way for the UK in excellence in maternity provision.

NICE guidelines updated last week confirm midwife-led care as the safest option for many women and it’s expected that this will lead to an increase in demand for both Independent midwives and home births, particularly where the service is not offered by the NHS.

IMUK’s membership is growing as more midwives seek to practice autonomously, control their own working conditions and provide the kind of evidence-based care that women are increasingly demanding.

British Journal of Midwifery ‘Midwife of the Year’ and IMUK Chair Jacqui Tomkins said: “This is a very exciting time for IMUK. We are building an organization which will grow and strengthen the UK’s network of independent practitioners, protect the autonomy of UK midwives and ensure that when it comes to birth, both women and midwives across the UK have an alternative to the NHS system.”   IMUK’s new branding underscores the importance of continuity of care and of the same midwife accompanying a birthing woman on her journey (from pregnancy, through birth and into the post natal period) via a series of hand-drawn illustrations using a continuous line.

IMUK’s new brand identity and website were created by London agency Nalla and the project was made possible by support of leading breastfeeding brand Lansinoh.
